A passerby had the unfortunate to witness a teenage boy deliberately force a pigeon into the road in front of an on coming car so it would get ran over. Sadly the bird panicked and it got hit by the car before it had a chance to fly away which was very distressing to the passerby who was left quite upset by the situation. There were many people commenting on the post and some of the comments made my blood boil. Lots were saying it is just a pigeon, it's vermin and it's stupid. What do you mean it's just a pigeon? Does this mean that it is okay to play a part in killing an animal and stand there and watch it happening during it's suffering just because it is just a pigeon and considered vermin? The bird has feelings. It feels pain just like we do and not only that it has every single right to be on this planet like the rest of us. I was shocked by the lack of feelings from some of the people commenting on this post. I am sure if it was a dog or a cat they may think differently due to social conditioning but as far as I am concerned we are all equal in this world and should not be treated any different to the next living creature. What the hell is wrong with people to make them think that just because they are bigger and more intelligent that this gives them the right to inflict suffering on defenseless animals? We are ruining their own habitat and they are trying to survive just like the rest of us. They have to eat and if this means picking food of the floor and going through bins then so be it. Sadly many people have to do the very same thing just to survive and they too get snubbed in the street because they are deemed dirty and trampy. They are just trying to survive. Life is difficult for all of us be it animals and humans alike and we all have to do what we have to do to get by but to judge and even worst contribute to their suffering just because of ignorance is so wrong on all levels. I do understand that in some cases when insects or rodents take over our homes we have to do what we have to do to get rid of them and even that is difficult enough for me to hear and say but as I said I do understand that it is not practical to have a load of cockroaches or rats living in our homes but when they are not in our homes and not bothering people why kill them? You can call me soft or what you like but it upsets me to the bones to hear stories of people harming animals just because they think they have more rights then they do or because they think that the animal is stupid. There is no excuse for this. As I said animals feel pain and suffering just like the rest of us and if someone can't feel at lease a tiny bit of remorse for watching an animal suffer then I personally feel they need help. How dare human's think and act like this planet is their's only and they can do what they think right for them out of selfish reasons? We have to if we like it or not accept the fact that we share this planet with animals, trees and plants and whose planet is their's too. This is not our home. This is everyone's home. We all have to stick together and help each other out the best we can to make our home a place that we can all enjoy together. Unfortunately many animals now more than ever are relying on us to help them because we have been destroying their natural habitat. It is the least we can do for them for what we have done to their homes just so we can have our homes. As I said we are all equal and no one or animal should be seen or treated any differently because they are seen as smaller, less intelligent or because they are trying to survive by going through a few bins.
Many of you may say that he is just a teenage boy and teenage boy's do stupid things but a teenager is old enough to know and understand better.
When I was as young as 5 or 6 years old and before I had much understanding about life I would feel terrible guilt for walking on flowers because I felt I had killed them. The guilt was bad enough that when walking through fields I would walk in zig zags just to avoid having to step on a flower because as young as that age and before I even learnt that flowers were also living things on paper I knew that these flowers had a life force going through them and felt pain. Yes they feel pain. Of course they do. They are living. Just because they are flowers why shouldn't they? Now I was very young yet understood that much then and it was not something that was drummed into me by my parents it was something that was within me naturally to make me think that from an early age. It was the same with insects and I never purposely killed them and would get very upset when I watched other children do it. Now okay I an not going to belittle children who do such things just because I didn't absolutely not because many do certainly if they have seen it happen of course they are going to think it is okay then and this does not make them bad or evil whatsoever and for the most they develop a conscience as they get older but I feel by the time they reach their teenage years and older they should start knowing a bit better between right and wrong. Okay maybe I am just a little overly sensitive but I can't help that it is just the way I am wired and many people can resonate with me on this one because they are the same way.
